PLANNING GUIDE

Connect providers at agreed work boundaries

Labour support and handling equipment may be arranged through one provider or separate parties. Either way, the interfaces need to be clear. A heavy labour coordination sheet identifies who supplies information, who assesses each work stage and who confirms the handover, without attempting to prescribe a lifting method or equipment capacity.

List providers by work stage

Show the stages requiring labour support and those involving equipment or transport. Name the responsible provider against each stage, including items still under discussion. Avoid treating an equipment booking as confirmation of every surrounding task. The purpose of the sheet is to make responsibility visible so gaps can be reviewed before attendance and quotation assumptions are accepted.

Share one current item description

Ensure the labour and equipment providers receive the same item references, available weight and dimensions, site information and intended endpoint. If a configuration changes, send the revision to both. A discrepancy between their briefs can leave one party planning for a different item or route. Ask the responsible parties to identify any additional technical information they need before confirming their own scope.

Identify the coordination contact

State who coordinates the site and how the parties communicate during the agreed work window. Clarify which person can approve changes and which decisions require a specialist or provider review. A coordination contact brings the conversation together; naming one does not transfer technical responsibility or establish competence for every activity involved in the handling arrangement.

Confirm interfaces at handover

Agree how each stage is recorded and who takes over afterward. Identify outstanding tasks rather than assuming that one provider’s completion means the entire move is complete. Keep equipment suitability, manufacturer requirements and technical instructions with the responsible competent parties. A useful handover describes the boundary crossed and the information passed, allowing the next party to review readiness for its actual work.

Your preparation checklist

  • Providers assigned to individual stages
  • One shared item and site brief
  • Coordination and change-approval contacts
  • Recorded boundary between completed stages

Questions about this topic

Does hiring labour confirm that a particular crane is suitable?

No. Equipment suitability and the handling arrangement require the responsible assessment; labour attendance does not establish either of them.
