Keep package identities visible through receipt
Industrial deliveries often contain crates, pallets or separately packed components rather than one complete machine. For heavy labour support, a package-level receiving plan helps connect the delivery list with what arrives. It also distinguishes handling a closed package from inspecting or preparing the equipment inside it.
Use the package as the receiving unit
Ask the sender for a package list with references that can be matched on arrival. Record the expected number of crates or groups, their available dimensions and weight information. If a package contains several parts, distinguish its external reference from the internal component list. This avoids treating a complete-looking vehicle load as proof that every expected package has reached the factory.
Identify the next destination
Explain whether packages will remain in a receiving area, go into storage or move towards an installation position. State who confirms that destination and how changes are communicated. Handling support can then be discussed against an actual route and endpoint. A package received at the gate should not automatically be assumed to include unpacking, assembly or placement of the internal equipment.
Separate observations from inspection
Agree how visible packaging observations will be recorded at handover. A written note can identify a damaged corner, a missing external label or a package reference that differs from the list. Keep those observations factual and linked to the package. Specialist inspection of the contents, transport-claim decisions and equipment acceptance belong with the parties responsible for those activities.
Close the package record
At the end of the agreed handling stage, record where each package was received and who took over. Keep unresolved references or quantity differences visible instead of hiding them inside a general completion message. A receiving list is most useful when it distinguishes the work completed by the labour provider from any further checking, unpacking or supplier action still outstanding.
Your preparation checklist
- Expected package references and quantities
- Available size and weight information
- Confirmed receiving or storage positions
- Visible-condition notes and handover contact
Questions about this topic
Is unpacking included in a receiving enquiry?
Include it only if the provider expressly agrees that work. Receiving a closed package, unpacking it and inspecting its contents are separate scope questions.
